Carlene Amey, Clinical Psychologist
Carlene Amey is an accomplished clinical psychologist who has helped many people overcome heartache, trauma, depression, anxiety, and relationship challenges in her career of fourteen years. As a psychologist who has provided therapy in a variety of settings, she is comfortable working with adults, and couples.
An experienced trauma and couple’s therapist
Carlene is skilled at quickly moving to a deep understanding of the person in front of her, and the ways they may be helped. Her professional and life experience brings a richness to her understanding, and she utilises evidence-based treatment techniques that are most likely to help. She is insightful, empathetic, kind, and very easy to connect with.
Carlene is particularly passionate about assisting clients with trauma across the lifespan and how past trauma affects them today. She compassionately helps her clients to get unstuck from the sometimes quite dramatic and insidious ways trauma can affect a person, and live freely and joyfully again.
As a psychologist trained in Gottman techniques for couples, Carlene is skilled at helping couples improve their communication, and foster increased intimacy, understanding, respect, love, and friendship with each other. Carlene’s manner is both direct and honest, yet kind, so that challenges can be dealt with compassionately and effectively.
Trained in Evidence-based Therapies
Carlene is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Skills Training (such as assertiveness, problem-solving, and goal setting), Family Systems Therapy, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Gottman relationship counselling, Trauma-focussed counselling and Schema Therapy. Carlene tailors her therapy for the best fit to the individual or couple she works with, and she always remains person-centred.
